Blazers showing heart, Bills stinking it up

The Blazers beat the Nuggets on Christmas day in front of a national TV audience. It was great to beat a division rival, especially that big idiot Chris "Birdman" Anderson. Now we are only a game back of Denver. Juwan Howard has been such a great addition, especially since Oden and Pryzbilla are out for the year. Everyone kind of assumed we were done for the year when the injuries came, but now we have won 4 in a row over quality opponents! The guys on our injured list would make a pretty decent team themselves - Oden, Pryzbilla, Rudy Fernandez, Travis Outlaw, Patrick Mills would challenge many starting 5s in the league. I really like what Jeff Pendergraph has done in just a couple of games since returning from his injury. Looks like the scrappy, intimidating presence we were looking for this summer in Milsap or Bass. I'm excited to be a Blazer fan right now, and I hope they keep defying the odds!

On another note, the Bills are looking pathetic. I hope they don't settle for Charlie Weis at coach. Someone who is a proven winner with a fiery personality is what I would like. Bill Cowher, Marty Schottenheimer or even Brian Billick would work for me. I'm not sure if I want them to draft a QB this year or wait until next year. They definitely need an OT, and if a great one is available I think they should jump. Maybe Jake Locker will be in the draft next year. I'm not really sold on any of the QB prospects this year.

The NFL playoffs are starting to shape up. I'm hoping for the Vikings or Saints to win it all. Anyone but the Patriots or Cowboys would be OK.

Blazers win first game, Bills looking a little better

And now, we turn our attention to the Portland Trailblazers. They looked a little rusty in their first game, but still beat the Rockets. They really are 2 units deep, even without Nicolas Batum who is out for 3- 5 months. Thursday will be a bigger test against the Nuggets. I am predicting 57-25 losing in Finals to Orlando. Love the additions of Andre Miller and Juwan Howard.

The Bills are now 3-4, but I still have little hope for the playoffs. I hope they either go nuts and make the playoffs or falter badly enough to get Dick Jauron fired. The worst scenario would be to go 8-8 or 9-7 and Jauron keeps his job.

Bills look done for the year

I hate to give up this early, but a 38 -10 loss to the 0-3 Dolphins is a REALLY bad sign. Plus, they were playing without their starting QB and one of their best defensive players. Maybe 7 - 9 or worse will get Jauron fired finally. We need a lot to change, and I think it starts at the top.

Now I'm hoping for the Falcons, Vikings or Saints to play the Chargers in the Super Bowl.

Watching Vikings VS. Packers tonight with my brother who is a big Vikings fan. Should be interesting. If you haven't heard the Favre Sears commercial it's pretty funny. He can't decide which TV to buy, and makes fun of himself and his waffling.

Bills bounce back, but face another tough test

The Bills beat the Buccaneers Sunday with a good overall game. The running game will be great when Marshawn Lynch returns. Fred Jackson has been great so far, and they are both tough runners and good receivers. I'm excited about this year - so far.

Sunday, the Bills play the red hot Saints. The Saints are scoring about 47 points a game, and Drew Brees is playing really well. If the Bills do beat them, I will be really impressed!

On another note, my brothers, my nephew and I choose teams each year - 8 each, and keep track of which teams win the most games. Keeps it interesting to keep track of "your" teams. My teams this year are Buffalo, New Orleans, Atlanta, San Diego, Chicago, Oakland, Cincinatti and Detroit. So far I'm tied for 2nd place.

I am going to put together an All Time team for my combined 8 teams and also a current best roster. Yes, I'm an Uber-Geek.

Monday nights are not a good thing for Bills

For the past 3 years, the Bills have found creative ways to blow it on Monday Night Football. 3 losses by a total of 4 points in front of the national audience. Please ESPN, don't schedule them next year! Last night may have been the toughest of the 3. Losing to division rival New England, who have beaten the Bills 11 consecutive times, by one point really stinks. A dumb mistake that was totally preventable cost them the game and made all us Bills fans groan. Monday night has become a curse.

Blazers Playoffs!!

The Blazers are in the playoffs and can do no worse than the 5th seed! Home court advantage will be huge, so if we can get 4th that would be great. 3rd seed is a remote possibility, but Denver would have to lose to Sacramento, which is highly unlikely. We have done well against San Antonio lately, so if we are 4th and they are 5th, we could beat them in the first round. We have matched up well against the Lakers, and I would LOVE to beat them and shut them up. If we do get to the Lakers in round 2 it would be pretty great. Houston and Denver seem to have our number, but anyone else would be doable. Pryzbilla and Aldridge have really stepped it up recently - they are a great front court now. Blake is a lot better than people give him credit for and Roy is a legitimate superstar. Add Batum's energy and timely shooting and a deep bench and you can see why Portland is excited for the playoffs. Go Blazers!!

Blazers heading to playoffs

With a convincing win over the Utah Jazz, the Blazers are only 2 more wins from qualifying for the playoffs. With 8 left, we should make it easily and hopefully we will challenge Denver for the NW division title. Either way, making the playoffs with a team that you are proud to root for is a huge thing for the Blazers. Not since the early '90's have the fans had this kind of a great team to cheer on. If Martell Webster comes back for the playoffs and adds even more versatility to the roster, we could go far in the playoffs. I am always a glass half full guy, so I'm hoping they beat the Lakers and represent the West in the finals! Maybe a year or 2 away, but you gotta dream.

Not the greatest weekend

Well, I went 1 for 4 on my predictions, and my eventual Super Bowl champs the Colts are done. Then, to top things off, the Blazers lost to the hated Lakers. Oh well, it is just sports after all.

The Bills did not fire Dick Jauron, which is disappointing, I just hope he doesn't "stay the course" and retain his whole coaching staff. Special Teams coach Bobby April is the only assistant that I think is untouchable.
